Today I have another delicious drink for you to try. This one is a simple summer favorite of mine! My husband is a bit of a whiskey connoisseur, and is always making things for me to try. I typically find them to be a bit on the strong side, until the day he made me this one. It’s pretty light and fizzy and refreshing. My new fave.
You will need:
ginger simple syrup*
your favorite whiskey (or your spouse’s favorite)
a wedge or two of lime
I’ve never really been into making my own cocktails, so I didn’t know what the measurements were. I did a little research, and here’s what I found out. The little side is 1 oz., and it’s called the pony shot. The big end is 1.5 oz., and it’s the fluid jigger or the jigger shot. And that’s your lesson in alcohol for today. Now you can mix this and other drinks with confidence.
Step 1 is to pour a 1/2oz of the ginger simple syrup into a glass.
* In case you’re wondering, this is how you make a ginger simple syrup (from epicurious.com). In a small, heavy saucepan, bring to simmer over medium-low heat: 1c sugar, 1c water, and 1/4lb ginger, peeled and thinly sliced. Once the sugar has dissolved, gently simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. Strain, bottle, cool to room temp, refrigerate. You can save the ginger for something else (candied ginger?).
Step 2: Whiskey time. Fill the big end of your jigger (1.5 oz.) and
toss it back add it to your glass.
Step 3: Swizzle vigorously. Vigorousl-ier!
Step 5: Squeeze a bit of lime juice into your concoction
Ok, here’s where I need your help. The problem is, we don’t have a name for this drink. When I texted my sister about it, iphone autocorrected “whiskeys” to “whiskers” so, there’s that. Fizzy Ginger Whiskers? Lime Whisker-fizz? Help! What should we call it? Tell us what you think in the comments!
