I’m one of those people who still has not bought a single Christmas gift (unless you count the hot water heater my husband and I so graciously gifted ourselves last week when ours conked out). Despite my procrastination, I am of the mind that home/hand made is best. Thanks to pinterest, anyone can become a DIY-er these days. And during the holidays, there are an abundance of ideas out there. Here are a few of my favorite things…
Personalized pet (or people, or houses) portraits.
Handmade gifts are arguably the best. There are so many artists on etsy you can commission. This one from WaterInMyPaint is so quirky and fun. Or, if you are so inclined, you can try your hand at a watercolor DIY. Last year I painted a portrait of my sister’s boxer, and she loved it!
Speaking of personalized… Pick out a simple glass baking dish, whiskey decanter or ornament and an etching kit from any craft store, and you’ve got yourself the easiest DIY ever. Find a kit with a cute design (like the bird above), or just go classic with initials or a last name.
Filling a simple glass ornament is perfect for those of you who lack the crafting gene. Add dried flowers from a bouquet for newlyweds, a favorite quote or Bible verse for your mother-in-law, and the list goes on and on. And the more sentimental it is, the less pretty it has to be. Win- win!
